Stormbreaker by Anthony Horowitz

Stormbreaker is the first book in the series about Alex Rider a 14 year-old recruited by MI6. Reminiscent of the James Bond series, the writing is fast-paced and leaves the reader breathless at times. The situations Alex finds himself in may seem a little preposterous at times but no more so than other superspy. The James Bond-style gadgetry is kept to minimum. Alex relies on his physical prowess and intelligence to get out of most situations. When he’s not being a spy, Alex suffers from the typical teen issues of dealing with teachers and getting good grades, trying to maintain friendships, and maybe even finding a girlfriend. A great book and series for reluctant readers.
