The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster
Milo has a great many toys, books, and games to play with but he's bored and lonely; until the day he finds a tollbooth in his room and he begins a quest to rescue two kidnapped princesses. Reminiscent of Where the Wild Things Are and Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, The Phantom Tollbooth is fun, engaging, satirical, and a commentary on our times.
