In a world where childhood exists but briefly and children are groomed to take on the responsibilities of adults, Jonas finds himself in an enviable position, for he has been chosen to be the Receiver. The Receiver is trained by the Giver, the one who holds the collective memories of his people, where memories bring warmth and solace, but also pain and suffering. This book can be read at many different levels and I would highly recommend this book to those who understand the complexities of our existense, yet yearn for a deeper understanding of life's mysteries.
